017-2021 Fifty Shades of Grey

Title: Fifty Shades of Grey

Author: E. L. James

Hi all,

it was quite unconventional and a first for me to have a go with a book from this genre, let’s call it one of the explicit nature kind.

To keep the site more family friendly I won’t go into great details, but I assume that a site about books won’t necessarily attract a child’s attention much more than what they would enjoy with video gaming, streaming, and everything else.

The story is about a girl (Anastasia) who is about to graduate from college/university, but is currently busy with her exams when she suddenly has to jump in for her friend (who is part of the college newsletter) to have an interview with a businessman in Seattle.

Their meeting is, hmm, electric and I would also say tense (the nervous kind). Yet, it isn’t so bad, because the young (Christian) CEO develops an interest for her that he wishes to meet her again.

Their ‘friendship’ builds over the next few days/weeks where slowly he gets the courage to let Ana in on a little secret. He doesn’t do relationships in the traditional way. He wants a relationship of a playful kind, but not with much more that other couples would do. Ana wants to know and understand him better and why he wants this kind of relationship and not the ‘more’ that other relationships have.

This is a critical boundary that Christian doesn’t want to be confronted with and therefore the reader will find that most of their back and forth conversations linger on this point since Ana doesn’t want to sign the relationship agreement without getting her answers. However, she also willingly accepts to play along to get the feel of how this kind of relationship would be like.

The book is quite a drama between the two, and honestly, if I compare the book with the movie, the movie was done better, because in the movie Christian still has a hint of a respectable man, even with his urges. Whereas in the book, it comes across as if he is desperate. This does not come across as attractive.

Summary:

Well, quite a tough one. What I did enjoy very much was the drama and the psychology from their relationship. I think the book was overall well written; the author captures pretty well the drama that can be expected when someone is confronted with this kind of relationship dilemma. I will give this book a rating of 3.8/5

Have a good weekend!!! 🙂
